Why Spine & Self exists

Because scoliosis is measured in degrees, but lived in ordinary moments.

Appointments have measurements. X-rays have angles. Brace plans have targets. Those things matter—but they do not hold the whole experience of living with scoliosis.

The rest happens between appointments: getting dressed, sitting through class, explaining the brace to someone new, returning to physio after a difficult week, or wondering whether anybody else feels the way you do.

Spine & Self is a place for that part of the story.

Practical without becoming clinical

Spine & Self offers practical ways to prepare for appointments, notice patterns, and find the words for better conversations with a care team. It does not provide individual medical advice. When a piece touches on clinical questions, it will be grounded in reliable sources, clearly attributed, and professionally reviewed.

Real stories, without forced positivity

Community stories will make room for people to speak honestly about bracing, movement, surgery, identity, parenting, setbacks, and life after treatment. There is no required lesson and no demand to turn a difficult experience into inspiration.

Every community story is reviewed by a person. Nothing submitted through Tina is published automatically, and contributors approve the final words and presentation before a story goes live.

A quieter kind of community

There is no follower count here, no public profile, and no pressure to perform recovery. Just useful guidance and carefully shared experiences from people who understand that a curve can shape a life without defining all of it.

Welcome to Spine & Self.
